WHAT I ATE IN MEXICO

People give me a hard time about taking pictures of my food but I have to say, looking back over photos like this always brings up the clearest memories for me. Years after a trip I often won’t remember much looking at pictures of city streets or landmarks. But the pictures of food instantly transport me back to the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the places I’ve been. It’s just how my brain works.

For that reason, I’m sharing a few snaps of the things I ate while in Playa del Carmen. The food was delicious and there were endless options. I wish I could have stayed longer, if only to have more meal times in the city.

Breakfast of champions: A Chicharron (fried pork belly) sandwich from a street cart

These carne asada empanadas were huge and delicious

Huevos rancheros

Jugo de Mango

I ate for three days off this one meal. Pozole, rice, fish, fried plantains, tortillas, and chips with guacamole

If I had a choice of my last supper, it would be shrimp tacos

…more tacos

…and more tacos

I was lucky to have so many great restaurants and street carts near my hotel. The food was cheap, plentiful, and I didn’t have a bad meal while I was there.
