MAGIC WATER FOR POULTRY
Baby chicks are delicate little things who can be prone to illness and even death in their early days. We learned this the hard way the first few times we incubated and hatched quail chicks.
After some trial and error, I found magic water gave the chicks the boost they needed to get past those first few days and grow into healthy, happy, active birds.

Magic water is a simple immune-boosting solution which is easy to make and uses readily available ingredients – water, honey, apple cider vinegar, and garlic.
These ingredients contain antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, and antimicrobial properties which help chicks not only survive but thrive. Be sure to use pure, raw ingredients for the ultimate health benefits.
The basic recipe includes:
- 4L/1 gallon warm water
- 118ml/1/2 cup raw honey
- 30ml/2 tbsp raw apple cider vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
I recommend using a garlic press to release as much of the garlicky goodness as possible. But a fine mince will work too if you don’t have access to a press.
The process is incredibly easy – mix everything together and allow to steep for 12-24 hours before offering it to your birds.

Magic water can be used for chicken and quail chicks as well as other poultry. It can also be given to adult poultry for an occasional health boost which helps prevent illness and ward off parasites.
Magic water can be given at full strength or diluted with water.
For brooder chicks, I tend to do full strength for the first 5-7 days before diluting or alternating with fresh pure water for another few days. Restart the magic water if there are any signs of the chicks failing to thrive.

For adult poultry, it can be added to their water on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for maintenance. It can also simply be given any time the birds show signs of illness.
Give it a try and watch your birds thrive!
